Our First Ever Durham Does Vintage 24/11/2012

Yesterday we held our first ever Durham Does Vintage at Durham Town Hall.

I'd not been to Durham for years, and even though it was a very cold day it was fun walking round the very pretty streets with the boards promoting the fair.  We had loads of people coming up to ask us where the fair was.  Did you spot us?

The Town Hall is a very beautiful building and was a great backdrop for all the lovely things that were for sale.  It's always interesting with these fairs to see what our stallholders bring to sell.  Now the weather's turned colder the clothes stalls of full of Christmas jumper, coats and hats.

There were also lots of items that would be great for to wear to Christmas party.  Sophie our interns had fun trying on some things.  In the photo on the left she's modelling a fur hat from Vintage 18.  You won't get cold in one of those!

If you really wanted to make a splash at the Christmas party then an eye catching hat from Trica Stikans stall might just do the trick!  In the photo on the right, Sophie tried on this beautiful orange hat with feathers.

And she also (in the photo on the left) tried on a stunning tiara made from up-cycled jewellery by lovely people from Pippy's Vintage.  Perfect for adding some Christmas sparkle to you party dress!

The tearoom at Durham was provided by Lavender Fields - who not only had the array of cakes on offer in the photo on the right, but also did some winter warmers such as soup and toasted tea treats.

We're now on the run up to our big Christmas event - York Does Vintage which is on Sunday 2nd December 2012.  It's going to be amazing!  So join us for some Christmas shopping and loads more at the Merchant Adventure's Hall from 10:30am.

Newcastle Does Vintage 17/11/2012 - What a Day!

People queuing up to come in!

We LOVE Newcastle!

Yesterday we held our first ever vintage event at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle.  Because it was our first ever event in Newcastle, we weren't sure how many people we would get through the door, so it was wonderful to find out just how much the people of Newcastle love vintage.  An amazing 1500 people turned up - which is about the same that we have come to our signature York events.  The venue was amazing - the theatre is such a beautiful building and so spacious for one of our events, and the theatre staff were so welcoming.

For most of the day I was standing on the front desk and we received some lovely comments from our visitors.  A few people asked us if we were there for two days because they knew people who couldn't come on the Saturday but would have loved it.

People had also been to our York fairs we're very pleased to find out it was the same company doing this one.  Also, being on the desk meant I remembered a few of the faces that came in, and it was great to see many of them still enjoying the fair hours after they'd passed through the door.

I bought my camera and spotted some locals with great taste who'd found some very stylish items.  This gentleman on the left bought a very nice jacket that fitted him perfectly, and this lady on the right looked fab in this white beaded top.

Our stallholders were having a good day too!  It's great to see these small businesses doing so well in the current financial market.  Plus, there was also time for a bit of fun.  Two of our regular stallholders in the pic on the left found a couple of matching coats for sale and tried them on - don't they look fab!

As with all of our fairs, we had other things for people to enjoy apart from the vintage stalls.  We had a lovely beauty bar run by the Body Shop.  There was face painting, and Emma from the Yesteryear Shed had her arm painted with this beautiful blue flower in the pic above.  Our workshop this time was a demonstration on how to turn an old book into a Christmas tree in the pic on the left.  I can't wait to try this!

Finally, we had the Moon Booth who we'd love at the last event we'd had in York, taking vintage style photos.  I had a photo taken - it was great fun.  You can see all the photos they took at Newcastle Does Vintage on their Facebook page.

So, that was our first ever Newcastle event.  We will be back next year - keep an eye on our Facebook page when we announce the dates.  If you feel you missed out and couldn't make it yesterday, then fear not!  On Saturday 24th November 2012 we'll be in Durham at the Town Hall.

Harrogate Does Vintage 10-11-2012

Yesterday we were at Harrogate Does Vintage in the Harrogate Theatre.  For most of the day Sophie and I were dressed up as vintage ladies and handing out flyers on the street of Harrogate.

Did you spot us?  It was great fun walking round Harrogate and seeing people smiling at us being dressed up in our vintage attire.

I did get an opportunity to come inside from the cold and take a few photos of the fair.  Our visitors certainly were taking the opportunity to have a good look round our fab vintage stalls and do a bit of early Christmas shopping.

As always our pop-up tea room was amazing!  Sue's cakes are a winner, especially on a cold day.  I tried one of the lemon cup cakes (which is why one from the bottom of the cake stand on the photo to the right is missing!). The tea rooms also had a TV screen showing vintage news clips and some animations showing our up coming events - made by the talented people behind Claire's Vintique.

Our workshop this time was run by Vintage Rose, who were demonstrating how to up cycle your furniture. They had some very clever paint for sale which they used to paint all sorts of things, from mirror frames to chairs.  They're coming to our Durham fair, so if you missed them at Harrogate, so you can catch them there.

Finally, here are some photos of people at the fair.  Can you spot yourself looking for a vintage item?

We'll be back in Harrogate on 23rd February 2013, so hopefully we'll see you there!

Don't for get that next weekend we're venturing outside of Yorkshire for our first event in Newcastle on 17th November 2012.

And then on 24th November 2012 we're in Durham for our first ever Durham Does Vintage event.

Check Facebook, Twitter or our brand new website Britain Does Vintage, for more details.

Short Film About York - 'Undressing the Viking'

In one of the last days of Summer 2012, I had the opportunity to be an extra in short film about York called Undressing the Viking.  It tells the story to two friends, one who's a bit hippie and romantic and one who quite rocky and modern, as they discuss their dream ways to spend a day in York.  The film was made by Parashoots, who also made the rather brilliant York 800 film.

I took part in the scene where the hippie lady describes her dream party.  Basically my role was to be a guest at a party at Gray's Court, and drink Pimms.  My acting abilities just about stretched to that!  It was a beautiful evening, sunny and warm, and when it got dark we set off Chinese lanterns - which look magical in the film.  I must add that we tied nylon thread to the lanterns and they were all pulled back and extinguished after we'd finished filming!

So, here's the final film!

I'm in it at around 2:33, I'm quite chuffed with being a guest at someone's dream party!  You might notice that when hippie lady gets to the party she changes into a purple vintage dress, I got to see it close up - it was beautiful.

The film also features lots of other cool shops and venues in York - so if you live here, or are planning a visit, you might get some ideas for fun things you can do around the city.
